I had a conversation with Ryan Vogelsong. There was a shot during our broadcast last night where Vogelsong goes over to Lincecum after the first inning and sits next to him, and when he sits next to Lincecum, he looks like a father sitting next to his son. And he put his big old paw around his shoulder, and the two of them have a conversation. I asked Vogey what was said there, and he says, “First of all,” he says, “I didn’t go over there. He called me over, and I as I sat next to him, Lincecum says, ‘I’m mad, I’m mad. I’m just really mad right now. I’m mad!’” And Vogey said, “You know what?” And he goes, “When I was saying this, I was speaking from experience, you know, ‘cause I sat in his seat. And I knew exactly how he was feeling. And I said, ‘You have to let it go, and you have to go out and pitch. We need you to go out and pitch.’ And he looked up at me, and he knew exactly where I was coming from.”
The key word was pitch, and he went out there, and he did pitch. And when the game was over, and the Giants win the ballgame, and they’re all back at the clubhouse, Lincecum walked over to Vogelsong, and he said, “Thank you.” And Vogey said, “I didn’t do anything! You did it yourself, pal.” And he looked at him again, and he said, “Thank you.”
